We remember Terry Fox

Every year, schools around the country talk about the example that Terry Fox provides our students. His struggles to raise awareness of cancer while fighting his own battle with the disease was a true example of courageperseverance and optimism. Three of the character traits that we teach our students and hope they can apply in their own lives when facing their own challenges.

All students at Fossil Hill participated in our Terry Fox Run today!  It was a fun day as we enjoyed our first true day of Fall. All proceeds fundraised will go to the Canadian Cancer Foundation.

Orange Shirt Day - This Friday!!

Colours can be used to build community and show spirit. But we can also use colour to show our support for a cause.

This Friday Fossil Hill PS will be participating in Orange Shirt Day. On this day, we wear orange in solidarity with victims of the Residential School System here in Canada. At these schools, First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students were separated from family members, underfed, punished for speaking their family’s language, and given scratchy uniforms to wear.

Phyllis Webstad, a Residential Schools survivor, shares her personal story in this video:

In the spirit of reconciliation, please stand with Phyllis Webstad, and all survivors, by wearing an orange shirt this Friday.

Join us for our first School Council Meeting of the Year!

Fossil Hill PS community members are welcome to our School Council meeting on Wednesday, September 27 at 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
This will be our first meeting of the year and we will begin with our School Council elections. As parents it is very important to be involved in your children’s education and being involved in your child’s school is very beneficial to their whole educational experience. At School Council meetings, we discuss many aspects of school life and hear about school initiatives from our Principal, Vice Principal our teacher representatives.

As parents, we are all busy, but we urge you to make the time to come out to our meetings and get involved, meet other parents just like you who want to help the school and to ensure that our children are getting the very best school experience. Come out and hear about your child's school, ask questions and give your input.

Message from York Region Public Health

Dear Parents of Grade 7 Students,
During the 2017/18 school year, York Region Public Health will visit public, catholic and private schools to provide school immunization clinics for Grade 7 students. The clinics offer vaccines for Hepatitis B, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and Meningococcal A, C, Y, W-135 at no cost.
If you have not already sent a completed consent form to York Region Public Health, please do so now using the attached form. Detailed instructions on how to complete and submit the form can be found on the form and accompanying letter. If a completed consent form is not received, your child will not be able to be vaccinated at the clinic.
Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, meningococcal vaccine is required for school attendance, unless an exemption is filed. Hepatitis B and HPV vaccines are recommended, but not required for school attendance.
Parents and guardians who do not consent should still complete the forms and return them, indicating that you do not authorize York Region Public Health to immunize your child.
Visit york.ca/immunizations and click on School Immunization Clinics for more information.

Thank you,

Joanne Lomanno-Aprile       Carolyn Lamy
